Safety and security has never been more important nowadays, especially if you happen to live in a high-crime area. Fortunately, there are ways to easily discourage criminals from pushing through with their plans. One of those is by installing an outdoor wireless security camera.
The presence of cameras are often enough to stop individuals from entering homes. In some cases, they can be used by the family to check out an individual before allowing them to go inside, to keep an eye on your pool or packages left on your porch. Note though that with this very important function, it makes sense to purchase a high-quality outdoor wireless security camera. Here’s how you make this decision.
Since they’re wireless, outdoor security cameras rely on batteries. However, how long exactly do those batteries last? Look for something that can last for months and hopefully with a flashing sign that tells you when the batteries are nearing empty. This way, you’ll never have to guess or worry about whether the batteries will burn out while you’re on vacation.
Installation and Relocation
Installation of the camera should be easy. More often than not, it only takes a small adjustment to adhere it to the wall – but what about relocation? Look for something that you can easily remove and reinstall should it become necessary.
Angle and Screen
Ideally, cameras should be able to capture a wide angle with a head that can be tilted to the side for adjustment purposes. Your minimum target must be around 104 degrees with a capacity of capturing images from 40 feet away. The best view however would be around 360 degrees if you want to get as much clearance as possible.
You should be able to get a camera with a resolution of 350 to 400. However, if you’re aiming for High Definition, look for something around 480 to 800 which should produce excellent accuracy in the images. You also have the option between colored or black/white cameras. For residential purposes, a black/white type would do fairly well.
This is incredibly important when it come to outdoor settings. Ideally, the camera should be able to adapt to the changing light, allowing you to still see clear images even during night time. There are also cameras using the Infrared LED technology, shining light on a specific area so that the device can capture the grounds better.
Since they’re wireless, there’s a good chance that you can do video streaming with an outdoor wireless security camera. The main question is whether you’ll be using an Analog type or an IP type. The IP basically relies on the internet connection, which means that it will be consuming precious bandwidth. If you’re on a residential-type of internet connection however, an Analog would be a better choice. They take in analog, convert it to digital and then process the video for hours worth of recording.
Of course, don’t forget to consider the cost of the product. Keep in mind that high-cost doesn’t equal excellent quality. Take a good look around and make comparisons between models. Read reviews and take warranty into consideration before pushing through with any purchase.
